LONDON, (BM) – The United Kingdom has officially declared the operational competence of the F-35 stealth aircraft in the RAF, despite deficiencies in aircraft availability and training and logistics systems, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.
The state body in charge of granting operational competence, NAO, has officially announced operational competence, plus a list of a few dozen exceptions and “issues for treatment and repair.”
These include, among other things, the training facilities for operating the aircraft, faults that have impaired operational availability, technical faults in the simulator array and other issues.
The Aviation Week website reports that the RAF currently operates 15 F-35Bs on two squadrons, one of which is a training and training squadron.
The British evaders had already flown and deployed in Cyprus, carried out operational missions in the Middle East and participated in major military and aerial maneuvers involving Australia and the United States.
A spokeswoman for Lockheed Martin, the F-35 manufacturer, said their production plan was very vigorous and that significant steps were taken to improve and upgrade aircraft reliability and availability to customers worldwide.
BulgarianMilitary.com recalls that on September 2 last year for the first time, UK F-35 Lightning jets have been conducting integration flying training with the B-2 Spirit stealth bombers of the United States Air Force as part of their deployment to RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire.
Then the Minister for the Armed Forces, Mark Lancaster said: “NATO is the bedrock of Euro-Atlantic defence, and those secure foundations continue to be reinforced by the training exercises being completed between the Royal Air Force and our special friends in the US Air Force.”
Recall that on September 26 2018, the U.K. Royal Navy marked a historic milestone by carrying out the first F-35B aircraft landing on the deck of the Britain’s aircraft carrier Queen Elizabeth, which at the same time was patrolling on the Eastern Seaboard of the United States.
