Greece plans to buy two French Belharra frigates totalling $2.8B

ATHENS, (BM) – Greece may buy two French-made Belharra frigates about $2.8 billion according to French and Greek MoD statements, learned, citing greek news agency Pentapostagma.

As far as Belharra frigates are concerned, everything shows that developments are on the way. The meeting of National Defense Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos with his French counterpart Florence Parley in Athens confirmed this.

“I want to believe that the exclusive negotiations that started last October will lead to the acquisition of two Belharra frigates from Greece. These latest generation ships will enable Greece to significantly enhance the deterrence capabilities it needs in the Mediterranean and to develop a unique one of its kind interoperability with the French navy, which will have the same frigates,” Mrs Parley said.

The cost of the two frigates is estimated to exceed € 2.5 billion, along with their reinforcement.
