Two Russian Tu-22M3 strategic bombers perform flight over Black Sea

Two Russian Tupolev Tu-22M3 strategic bombers have performed a scheduled flight over the neutral waters of the Black Sea, Russia’s Defense Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

“During the flight, the crews covered a distance of about 4,500 km and stayed in the air for more than five hours,” the statement runs.

Fighter jets of Russia’s Southern Military District escorted the bombers during the flight. Russian long-range aviation pilots regularly perform flights over the neutral waters of the Arctic, the Northern Atlantic, the Black and Baltic Seas and the Pacific Ocean, the ministry stated.

“The aircraft of Russia’s Aerospace Force perform all their flights in strict compliance with the International Rules of Using the Airspace,” the Defense Ministry of Russia stressed.

Yemen landmine kills 6 in defence minister’s convoy

Six Yemeni soldiers were killed when a convoy carrying the country’s defence minister was hit by a landmine explosion on Wednesday, but the minister was unharmed, Reuters reported government sources as saying.

Muhammad Ali Maqdashi, defence minister for the internationally recognised government of Yemen, was visiting a frontline area of Sirwah. It is located west of the government-held city of Marib, and east of the capital Sanaa, controlled by the Houthi movement.

Six soldiers were killed and several others were wounded after the convoy hit explosives buried in the road, two government officials told Reuters.

Libyan gov’t suspends UN-sponsored talks with Haftar

The UN-recognized Government of National Accord (GNA) on Wednesday suspended all UN-brokered talks with renegade commander Khalifa Haftar.

In a statement to Libya Al-Ahrar T.V. channel, Fayez al-Sarraj, head of the presidential council of the GNA, announced suspension of all military, political and economic negotiations.

This came hours after the council announced the suspension of its participation in the military talks in Geneva as a result of the repeated breach of cease-fire by Haftar militias.

On Tuesday, three civilians were killed and five others injured when Haftar’s forces attacked the Port of Tripoli.
