MOSCOW, (BM) – The Russian Ministry of Defense plans in the summer to sign a new contract for the supply of several dozen Su-34 front-line bombers to the Russian Aerospace Forces, the combat capabilities of which will be expanded based on the Sych development work, learned BulgarianMilitary.com according TASS information and a source from Russian military-industrial complex.
“The military department plans to conclude a contract this summer with Sukhoi Company PJSC for the supply of several dozen Su-34s with advanced combat capabilities to the troops. The aircraft will be integrated with the latest radio-electronic equipment created as part of the Sych development work,” the agency’s interlocutor said.
He clarified that the Sych Rocket Development Project was completed in 2019 and, in particular, “involves the installation of suspended reconnaissance containers on the Su-34.” “Also in the course of this work, the range of aircraft weapons that Su-34 can use is significantly expanded,” the source said.
The interlocutor added that “in the future it is planned to modernize the aircraft fleet already in service with the Su-34.”
The Su-34 multifunctional supersonic fighter-bomber is designed to destroy both ground and air targets day and night under any weather conditions. The main armament of the aircraft – guided missiles of the classes “air – surface” and “air – air. The flight range of the Su-34 reaches 4000 km, the maximum speed is up to 1900 km / h, the combat load is up to eight tons.
The first contract for the supply of 32 Su-34s to the Ministry of Defense was signed in 2008. Currently, Novosibirsk Aviation Plant. V.P. Chkalova (a branch of Sukhoi Company PJSC) is completing the production of Su-34 bombers under a contract that was signed with the Ministry of Defense in 2012 and provides for the transfer of 92 aircraft to the troops.
According to various sources, from 110 to 130 Su-34 front-line bombers are currently in service.
