DAMASCUS, (BM) – The US military opened fire on civilians during the conflict at one of the checkpoints near the city of Kamyshly in the province of Hasek, said the head of the Center for the Reconciliation of the warring parties, Major General Yuri Borenkov, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.
According to him, a fourteen-year-old boy died, another civilian was injured.
Borenkov noted that the conflict arose at one of the checkpoints, where the Syrian military stopped the American convoy deviating from the route.
Further escalation was halted only thanks to the efforts of the Russian military, which ensured the exit of the American column in the direction of the base point.
Yuri Borenkov added that illegal armed groups continue to conduct hostilities in the area of the Idlib de-escalation zone. Over the past 24 hours, the Center for Reconciliation has counted 22 shellings here.
Acted as part of self-defense
Representatives of the Western coalition, commenting on the skirmish between the US military and civilians, said that US soldiers acted as part of self-defense.
It is noted that the military made several warnings and tried to defuse the situation, however, “the troops supporting the Syrian regime that occupied the checkpoint” were allegedly the first to open fire.
It is also emphasized that as a result of the incident, one American soldier was slightly injured.
RT Arabic TV channel and Kurdistan24 and SANA agencies published a video of a conflict between American soldiers and local residents in the vicinity of the city of Kamyshly in eastern Syria.
In other frames you can see a verbal skirmish between one of the local residents who is holding a crumpled US flag in their hands and three American soldiers.
The armed conflict in Syria has been ongoing since 2011. At the end of 2017, victory was announced over the ISIS terrorist group banned in Russia in Syria and Iraq.
