PANAGYURISHTE, (BM) – Your briefly report on February 13 in last twelve hours from BulgarianMilitary.com:
Haftar’s forces in Libya ban U.N. flights to embattled capital
Eastern Libya forces will not allow the United Nations to use the only functioning airport in the capital Tripoli, a spokesman for the group that has been trying to capture the city from the internationally recognised government said on Wednesday.
The U.N. earlier warned flight restrictions by commander Khalifa Haftar’s forces known as the Libya National Army (LNA) were hampering humanitarian and mediation efforts in the oil-producing country embroiled in a conflict between loose alliances from western and eastern Libya since 2014.
The LNA, which is backed by Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, has been trying since last April to take Tripoli but has failed to breach the city’s defences.
However, it has air superiority thanks to UAE-supplied combat drones, which cover the whole of Libya via a satellite link, a U.N. report said in November.
LNA spokesman Ahmed Mismari told reporters in the eastern city of Benghazi that the United Nations would have to use other airports such as Misrata because it could not guarantee the safety of flights into Tripoli Mitiga airport as Turkey was using it as a base.
UK, US, Turkey called on to investigate UAE war crimes in Yemen
The US, Britain and Turkey have officially been asked to arrest senior officials from the UAE who are suspected of carrying out war crimes and torture in Yemen, according to the UK-based news agency Reuters.
British Law firm Stoke White filed complaints to a number of governmental bodies of the three countries, including the London Metropolitan Police and the US and UK ministries of justice, on behalf of a journalist named Abdullah Suliman Abdullah Daubalah and Salah Muslem Salem, whose brother was killed in the Yemeni conflict.
The complaints, which were filed today, state that numerous cases of torture and war crimes inflicted on civilians in Yemen during 2015 and 2019 were committed by UAE forces and their foreign mercenaries.
According to one of the three sources cited by Reuters: “It is requested that the UK, US and Turkish police open investigations into these alleged crimes as soon as possible.”
Israeli cyber company uncovers Hamas campaign against PA
A series of Hamas-sponsored cyberattacks targeting officials in the Palestinian Authority was uncovered during the last several months by Cybereason, the Israeli security company reported on Thursday.
The Boston-based company revealed several cyber-warfare operations targeting organizations and individuals in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip – including Palestinian Authority officials – in a report from its Nocturnus Research Group titled “New Cyber Espionage Campaigns Targeting Palestinians.”
According to Cybereason, having identified the targets, the Hamas unit would hack into the victims’ mobile phones, gaining access to their microphones and cameras as well as files and information stored on the devices.
Cybereason says it monitored the attacks, discovering they were carried out in a similar way to previous attacks the unit committed against Israeli strategic assets. The unit, says the company, is a politically-motivated cell that has acted against various targets across the Middle East since 2012.
The cell reportedly used new malware called Pierogi first discovered in December 2019 by Cybereason, resembling patterns of action used in the past by MoleRATs.
