BAGHDAD, (BM) – Baghdad has resumed negotiations with Moscow on the acquisition of S-300 anti-aircraft systems and is awaiting Washington’s opposition on this issue, learned BulgarianMilitary.com, according Iraq’s Defense and Security Committee head Muhammad Reed statement.
“It was assumed that this issue should have been resolved a long time ago, several months ago, after the attacks on the Shiite militia bases of al-Hashd al-Shaabi in Baghdad and other provinces, the need for these weapons arose and the responsible party resumed negotiations on the S-300 contract”, Said Reed.
According to him, the deal received permission from the top leadership of Iraq. “We expect US opposition in this matter,” Reed added, RIA Novosti reports.
At the end of last year, it was also reported that several countries in the Middle East were interested in acquiring S-400 air defense systems from Russia. We add that Russia has already delivered the S-400 to Turkey, in addition, these complexes are located in Syria.
