PANAGYURISHTE, (BM) – Your briefly report on December 13 in last twelve hours from BulgarianMilitary.com:

Troops test-fire Iskander tactical missile system in Russia’s south

Troops test-fired a ballistic missile from the Iskander tactical missile system at the Kapustin Yar proving ground in the southern Astrakhan Region, the press office of the Western Military District reported on Thursday.

“A pinpoint missile strike struck the target that simulated a fortified command post of an illegal armed formation at a distance of about 60 kilometers. Recording equipment showed that the missile hit the target without any deviations. After the test-launch, the teams practiced promptly changing the positioning area,” the press office said in a statement.

The test-fire was held as part of the drills to learn to operate the Iskander tactical missile system that has arrived for a missile formation of the combined arms army in the Kursk Region in western Russia.

The Iskander-M tactical missile system is designated to strike adversary low-sized and site targets at a range of up to 500 km: missile launchers, multiple launch rocket systems, long-range artillery, aircraft and helicopters at aerodromes, command posts and communications centers.

Lebanese officials protest Iranian threat to attack Israel from Lebanon

Lebanese officials protested against a recent threat by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corp (IRGC) to attack Israel from Lebanon, calling the statement a violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty, the Arabic newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat reported.

“If the Zionist regime makes the smallest mistake toward Iran, we will reduce Tel Aviv to ashes from Lebanon,” said IRGC commander Morteza Qorbani, adding that Iran wouldn’t need to fire a single missile from its territories.

“These statements are unfortunate and unacceptable,” tweeted caretaker Defense Minister Elias Bou Saab. “They are a violation of the sovereignty of Lebanon, which enjoys ties of friendship with Iran that should not infringe on its independent decision-making in any way, shape or form.”

Caretaker Information Minister Jamal al-Jarrah called Qorbani’s remarks “irresponsible” and “arrogant,” adding that they are a violation against Lebanon’s sovereignty, people and state.

“Iran may defend itself in any way it likes, but Lebanon is not the Guards’ mailbox or an arena for foreign actors,” Jarrah said, according to Asharq Al-Awsat.

UAE hires White House veterans to carry out spy missions

The United Arab Emirates has been hiring former White House executives and intelligence officials for spying missions, a detailed investigation published by Reuters revealed on Tuesday.

Following the 11 September attacks, the former American counterterrorism czar, Richard Clarke, warned Congress, that the US needed more expansive spying powers to prevent another catastrophe.

Reuters also revealed that in 2008, Clarke went to work as a consultant, guiding the UAE, as it created a cyber surveillance capability that would utilise top American intelligence contractors to help monitor threats against the small, but wealthy, nation.

Clarke, who possessed good relations with the UAE, helped create the Development Research Exploitation and Analysis Department (DREAD).

Over the following years, the UAE unit expanded its hunt far beyond suspected extremists, to include a Saudi women’s rights activist, diplomats at the United Nations and personnel at the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).
