DUBAI, (BM) – Russia and Saudi Arabia are negotiating the terms of the implementation of the contract for Russian S-400 air defense missile systems, learned BulgarianMilitary.com according a spokesman for Russia’s Federal Service for Military Technical Cooperation statement at the Dubai Airshow 2019 on Sunday.
“A contract for the supplies of the S-400 Triumf systems was signed with Saudi Arabia in 2017. Currently we are negotiating with the partners mutually acceptable terms for the enforcement of this contract,” the spokesman said.
Reports about Russia’s and Saudi Arabia’s striking a deal for supplies of Russian S-400 missile systems came in October 2017.
Russia’s S-400 ‘Triumf’ (NATO reporting name: SA-21 Growler) is the most advanced long-range air defense missile system that went into service in Russia in 2007. It is designed to destroy aircraft, cruise and ballistic missiles, including medium-range missiles, and can also be used against ground installations. The S-400 can engage targets at a distance of 400 km and at an altitude of up to 30 km.
If this deal comes to fruition, the US will lose serious positions in the Middle East now and in the future. We remind that Turkey and India have bought the S-400 systems, and now a new customer is being appointed – Saudi Arabia. Iran and Syria have the older model of defense systems, the S-300.
Thus, the domino effect is likely to be obtained as Saudi Arabia is a serious player in the Middle East and this example is expected to be followed by other countries in the region.
Two logical questions of course must immediately be asked:
- Is the America`s Patriot defense system so bad?
- If Saudi Arabia is the largest US customer in the region, will the US impose sanctions, i.e. will they act on an equal footing or show a hypocritical divide in military policy?
We must not forget one very important fact – Saudi Arabia already has Patriot defense systems in place.
But this is again bad news for the US because it provokes the third question
- Is the failure of the Patriot system during the attack on Saudi Arabian oil refineries the reason for the accelerated negotiations with Russia for the supply of the C-400?
