Hezbollah shoots at Israeli drone over southern Lebanon
The Hezbollah terror group fired an anti-aircraft missile at an Israeli drone flying over southern Lebanon on Thursday, officials in both countries said.
The Israel Defense Forces denied the Iran-backed terror group’s claim that the aircraft had been shot down over the Lebanese village of Nabatieh.
“A short while ago, anti-aircraft fire was detected from Lebanese territory at an IDF unmanned aerial vehicle. The aircraft was not damaged,” the army said in a statement.
Footage from Nabatieh that was shared on social media (above) appeared to show an anti-aircraft missile being fired into the air. An explosion was also heard in the area, residents told local media.
The exchange occurred amid heightened tensions between Israel and Iran, and amid a rapidly deteriorating political situation in Lebanon, where nearly two weeks of nonstop protests have paralyzed the country.
Earlier this month, a small IDF drone was shot down over southern Lebanon. The Israel Defense Forces said the aircraft was conducting “routine operations to secure the border” when it crashed inside Lebanese territory.
Latest Tor-M2 anti-aircraft missile systems arrive for Russia’s Baltic Fleet
The Baltic Fleet’s army corps has received the latest Tor-M2 surface-to-air missile systems, the Fleet’s press office reported on Thursday.
“The new Tor-M2 anti-aircraft missile systems have arrived for the troops after successful drills with a live-fire exercise at a firing range in the Astrakhan Region. The personnel of the air defense missile regiment underwent re-training at the Yeisk training center to learn to operate the new systems, after which the servicemen performed the first launches of missiles at the Kapustin-Yar range,” the press office said.
During the test-launches, the personnel hit several fast-speed Saman-type maneuvering targets launched from various directions and flying at minimum and maximum altitudes.
The Tor-M2 all-weather tactical surface-to-air missile system with a 15km range capability is designated to effectively fight air-to-surface missiles, guided and smart air bombs, anti-radar missiles and other new-generation precision weapons, tactical and army aviation aircraft, cruise missiles, helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles. The anti-aircraft missile system is capable of successfully accomplishing combat missions in any situation under intensive enemy jamming.
U.S. forces seen near Turkish border for patrol in northeast Syria – witness, SDF source
U.S. forces in armoured vehicles were seen on Thursday near the Syria-Turkey border in a part of northeastern Syria where they had not been observed since the United States announced a decision to withdraw from the area, a witness said.
A military source from the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) described the movement as a patrol running between the towns of Rmeilan to Qahtaniyah, 20 km (12 miles) to the west. The source said it would “not be a one-time” event.
The head of the SDF’s media office could not immediately be reached for comment. The witness saw the vehicles outside the town of Qahtaniyah, roughly 6 km (4 miles) south of the border.
President Donald Trump announced this month that U.S. forces would withdraw from northeastern Syria, where the United States had allied with the SDF to oust Islamic State forces.
