Application for test S-500 “Prometheus” in Syria has provoked a strong reaction abroad. In particular, it is noted that Russia continues to use the SAR territory as a “platform for testing their weapons.” Western sources say that during the years of participation of the Russian Armed Forces a variety of means of weapons were tested in the Syrian campaign, including cruise missiles “Caliber”, the fifth-generation fighter aircraft Su-57, and now – and S-500 “Prometheus”.
Check it in the SAR is important primarily because it allows you to confirm a functional complex, which, in fact, is also a powerful anti-missile means. Also, the complex radar had the opportunity to test in the direction of detection of “stealth” purposes. If we consider that in the sky over Syria appear fighter of the 5th generation of the US Air Force (F-22) and the Israeli Air Force (F-35), the experience was “Syrian” test is very important for the developers and the military. Naturally, the developers, and the military will conduct a thorough analysis of the test S-500 Implemented in the territory of the SAR, that in itself will be an invaluable experience in the development of air and missile defense shield.
It can be assumed that the test S-500 was carried out in Syria without “physical” missile launch – first tests of target detection performance.
Earlier tests of the S-500, as it became known, were held in the Astrakhan region.
