Trump says China deploying troops to Hong Kong border

U.S. intelligence indicates China is moving armed forces toward Hong Kong, President Donald Trump said Tuesday amid continued mass demonstrations, Anadolu Ageny reported.

“Our Intelligence has informed us that the Chinese Government is moving troops to the Border with Hong Kong,” Trump tweeted. “Everyone should be calm and safe!”

Hong Kong, an autonomous region, under China’s control since 1997, has witnessed unprecedented protests since early June, against the local government’s since-scrapped move to legalize extradition of suspects to mainland China, Macao and Taiwan.

Protesters’ calls have since swelled into larger pro-democracy demands.

China warned in late July that it made deploy armed forces to the region to quell the anti-government demonstrations.

Russian aircraft fire unguided missiles at ‘enemy’ positions in Far Eastern drills

Aircraft from the Eastern Military District have destroyed ‘enemy’ strongholds with bombs and unguided missiles during drills in the Russian Far East, the district’s press service said on Wednesday, TASS reported.

“Pilots from three air regiments of the Eastern Military District have practiced destroying ‘enemy’ strongholds during an offensive. Su-34 bombers, Su-25SM strike aircraft and Su-25 ‘Grach’ aircraft took part in the tactical drills. They fired rockets and bombs at training ranges in Khabarovsk, Primorsky and Zabaikalsky regions. Up to 50 aircraft from the Aerospace Defense Forces took part in the military exercise,” the press service said.

Aircraft used special unguided missiles to destroy ‘enemy’ fortifications, while ‘enemy’ underground communications and command posts were destroyed with concrete-piercing rockets and air bombs.

“During drills, pilots struck targets imitating ‘enemy’ aircraft hangars, parks with military and automotive equipment, fortifications for manpower,” the press service noted.

Efforts start toward US-Turkey Joint Ops Center

Preparations for an operations center between Washington and Ankara to establish a safe zone in Syria have begun, Anadolu Agency reported.

The ministry said in a statement that efforts are ongoing for the Joint Operations Center to enter service in the province of Sanliurfa, southeastern Turkey, as part of the safe zone in in northern Syria planned in coordination with the U.S.

On Monday, a six-member U.S. team arrived in Sanliurfa province to work for the center’s establishment.

The ministry underlined that efforts were underway towards the center’s establishment and operation “as soon as possible”.
