PANAGYURISHTE, (BM) – Your briefly report on July 27 in last twelve hours from BulgarianMilitary.com:
Saudi-led forces, Israel among states rapped by U.N. for killing children
A Saudi Arabia-led military coalition fighting in Yemen killed or injured 729 children during 2018, accounting for nearly half the total child casualties, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a report to the Security Council on Friday that blacklisted the coalition for a third year, Reuters reported.
Guterres also reported that the highest number of Palestinian children had been killed or injured last year since 2014, mainly by Israeli forces, though no parties were blacklisted in the annex to the annual Children in Armed Conflict report, seen by Reuters.
The report, which does not subject those listed to action but rather shames parties to conflicts in the hope of pushing them to implement measures to protect children, has long been controversial with diplomats saying Saudi Arabia and Israel both exerted pressure in recent years in a bid to stay off the list.
Russia warns of full-scale armed conflict in Middle East
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned of a full-scale armed conflict in the Middle East on Friday, MEMO reported.
Speaking at a BRICS foreign ministers meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Lavrov said the US steps against Iran had led to a harsh escalation in the Persian Gulf region.
“The situation has reached a dangerous point fraught with the risk of a large-scale military clash. This cannot be allowed to happen,” he said.
Tensions have been running high between the US and Iran since Washington unilaterally withdrew from a landmark 2015 nuclear deal last year.
The agreement was an outcome of protracted negotiations between Tehran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, plus Germany and the EU.
The US has since launched a diplomatic and economic campaign, to force Iran to renegotiate the deal.
If the US manages to break the Iran nuclear deal, it will strike a severe blow at the regime of non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, he added.
Lavrov called on Iran to exercise restrain and the UK, France and Germany to meet their obligations under the Iran nuclear deal.
