TEHRAN, (BM) – Iran has captured 17 spies working for the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency and some have been sentenced to death, learned Bulgarianmilitary.com, quoting Reuters and according Iranian media report on Monday.

State television quoted the Intelligence Ministry as saying it had broken up a CIA spying ring and captured 17 suspects. A ministry official said some of those arrested had been sentenced to death, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.
BulgarianMilitary.com recalls that on June 18th this year the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, Ali Shamkhani, said that several CIA agents had been arrested after Iran had shared intelligence information with its allies. Shamkhani said that Iran was responsible for the security in the Gulf and called on the US forces to leave the region.

“We have always said we guarantee the security of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz,” he said. “We repeat our stance and call on US forces to finish their presence in the region as they are the main source of crisis and instability,” Shamkhani said.
