US to Russia: The Deployment of Troops in Poland Is a Defensive Action

WASHINGTON, (BM) – The agreement of US with Poland on sending 1,000 additional soldiers to the country is a defensive measure necessary for its security, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.

This was announced by the US ambassador to Warsaw, responding to Russia’s accusations that this move is aggressive, Reuters reports.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov was quoted by the Russian media last week as saying that Washington’s move probably reflected “aggressive” intentions.

In response, the US Ambassador to Poland, Georgette Mosbacher, said that “what we’re talking about is merely defensive, making a country enabled to defend its borders.”

“And history is proving, particularly here in Poland, that a country has to be very careful with regard to its neighbors and be able to defend itself,” she told Reuters during a visit to a military base in western Poland, where American F-16 fighter aircraft are located.

“…We’re talking about the eastern flank of NATO and our responsibilities as important war allies – Poland and the United States. We want to take the necessary actions to be defensive,” Mosbacher stated.
