SOFIA, (BM) – The United States officially presented to the Bulgarian Ministry of Defence a draft contract for the purchase of eight F-16 Block 70 fighter aircraft, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.
The draft agreement also includes armament, maintenance of the equipment and training of the pilots.
“U.S. Embassy Sofia takes this opportunity to commend the Bulgarian military and financial expert delegation who ensured that the Letter of Offer and Acceptance is comprehensively tailored to best meet the requirements of the Bulgarian Air Force. The United States looks forward to finalizing this contract with the Government of Bulgaria in accordance with Bulgarian procedural requirements,” the U.S. Embassy stated.
The diplomatic mission does not specify the particular parameters of the proposed draft agreement, and so far there is no official information from the Ministry of Defence as well.
Sweden’s Ambassador to Bulgaria Louise Bergholm said in an interview with “Trud“ published today that the offer of the Swedish state and Saab for purchase of Gripen fighter aircraft was still valid, “for a period of two years from its submission, or until Bulgaria signs an agreement with another country“.
