SOFIA, Bulgaria (BulgarianMilitary.com) – A series of exercises for improvement the capabilities of the armed forces at national and allied levels will be held in May and June in a number of countries, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.
Bulgaria is one of them, and the rest are Romania, Croatia, Hungary, Slovenia and North Macedonia. According to the Alliance’s plan, all these exercises will be connected to each other.

From May 26
to June 28, 2019, there will be drills on the territory of our country with the
participation of servicemen, staffs and military formations with service
armament, pack and combat equipment of the armed forces of Bulgaria, USA, Great
Britain, Ukraine, Greece, North Macedonia, Canada and Italy. They will include
up to 6,000 (six thousand) people, up to 1,200 units of land equipment and
armaments as well as up to 80 aeronautical vehicles.
The exercises are conducted in accordance with the “Agreement between the Government of the United States of America (US) and the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria on Defense Cooperation”, the “Plan for the preparation of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Bulgaria in 2019” and the “Plan for joint Bulgarian-American training in the country and abroad in 2019.” The passing through and staying in the territory of our country of non-military nature of allied and foreign armed forces in connection with the conduct of the exercises was approved by a decision of the Government adopted at a meeting on April 24, 2019.

The general
planning of the exercises is carried out under the leadership of the United States Army Europe’s Commander, together with the host countries.
The leadership and control of the exercises will be carried out by a
multinational structure that will be located in Grafenwoer, Germany.
A national structure under the leadership of the Joint Forces Command will be deployed in the area of the Bulgarian-American facility at the Novo Selo Training Area, and the structure will carry out the general supervision and control of the exercises on the territory of our country as well as the coordination of the Armed Forces of the Republic Bulgaria’s participation in the related exercises and structures outside the country. Director of the national structure for leadership and control of the exercise will be Major-General Ivan Lalov, Deputy Commander of the Joint Force Command.

The participation in these exercises is an expression of allied resolve, unity and mutual commitment to the security in the Black Sea region. The aim is improvement of the operational capabilities and achievement of compatibility in the troops at national and allied levels.
