PARIS, France (BulgarianMilitary.com) – In the middle of last week, on 5th December 2018, Naval Group announced the opening of its subsidiary in Egypt, Alexandria Naval for Maintenance and Industry (ANMI), learned BulgarianMilitary.com
One of the main tasks of ANMI will be the in service support of Naval Group’s vessels and future naval programs. Thus, the Egyptian Navy will be able to obtain a matchless level of performance during the whole ship’s lifecycle.
Nathalie Smirnov, Naval Group’s Executive Vice President in charge of Services, commented, “Naval Group is strongly committed to maintain the performance of the Egyptian Navy’s vessels over the long run. The multiannual maintenance contract constitutes a major milestoneand will grant an additional industrial capacity for ANMI.”
The opening of the new facility in Egypt contributes to the long-term partnership of the French shipbuilder with the Egyptian Navy and the Egyptian industry. In that relation, it shall be reminded that in July 2014, the Ministry of Defence of the Arab Republic of Egypt signed a contract for the construction of four Gowind corvettes. The first one of that class was built in Lorient (France) and delivered to Egypt on September last year. The second one is currently built through technology transfer in Alexandria Shipyard and was launched in September this year. Naval Group delivered the Fremm multi mission frigate Tahya Misr in August 2015 and two Mistral-class Landing Helicopter Dock vessels – in June 2016.
Any upcoming upgrades on the four Gowind corvettes, the two Landing Helicopter Dock vessels, the multi mission frigate Tahya Misr, as well as on other potential vessels will be executed at Alexandria Naval for Maintenance and Industry. The maintenance activity will complete the successful industrial cooperation program by supporting the construction process of the three locally built Gowind corvettes.
