WASHINGTON, the USA (BulgarianMilitary.com) – Yesterday, 10th October 2018, the global security and aerospace company Lockheed Martin, headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, the USA, revealed the delivery of the 300th interceptor for the THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defence) system, learned BulgarianMilitary.com
The Vice President for the THAAD system at Lockheed Martin Richard McDaniel shared, “The Missile Defense Agency, industry and Lockheed Martin team of men and women who engineer and produce the THAAD interceptor have remained steadfast in their commitment to excellence as global demand for this system has grown year after year,” and added, “The 300th interceptor delivery is a reflection of that dedication and our continued focus on providing high-quality, reliable system capabilities to maintain overmatch against our adversaries.”
The demand for the hit-to-kill missile defence system and interceptors of the company is constantly growing. The THAAD system is one of the most advance missile defence systems and the only system in the world, developed for intercepting threats both inside and outside the atmosphere. The United Arab Emirates was the first international partner of Lockheed Martin that procured THAAD under a contract, which was concluded in 2011. The seventh THAAD battery was activated by the U.S. Army in December 2016 and presently the system is forward deployed with U.S. troops in Guam and South Korea. The 200th THAAD interceptor was supplied by Lockheed Martin in September of 2017.
The THAAD system protects America’s military, allied forces, citizen population centres and critical infrastructure from short and medium-range ballistic missile attacks. It is proven and features 100% mission success in flight testing. Some of its advantages is that it is rapidly deployable, interoperable with other BMDS elements including the PAC-3 Missile, Aegis, forward based sensors and the Command, Control, Battle Management and Communications (C2BMC) system.
