HELSINKI, Finland (BulgarianMilitary.com) – Patria Helicopters AB revealed today, 9th October 2018, in a press release the receipt of a follow-on order for maintenance of the HKP 16 (Black Hawk) helicopters of Sweden, learned BulgarianMilitary.com
The President of International Support Partnerships business unit at Patria Jukka Holkeri commented, “This follow-on order is an important milestone for Patria not only in Sweden, but also wider as it shows Patria’s capability in supporting military programs with cost effective solutions in long-term and is a sign of trust from the customer.”
The main contract was concluded in 2014 between Patria and the FMV for maintenance of the Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters (locally designated HKP 16) of the Swedish Armed Forces in Linköping for the period from 2015 to 2017 with the option for extension till 2020. The estimated value of the contract with the relevant included options was approximately 25 MEUR.
The Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk is a four-bladed, twin-engine, medium-lift utility helicopter manufactured by Sikorsky Aircraft. In September 2010 Sweden requested fifteen UH-60Ms by Foreign Military Sale and the helicopters were ordered in May 2011. The first deliveries took place in January 2012. The Swedish UH-60M helicopters are to be fully operational by 2017.
The UH-60A, named after the Native American war leader Black Hawk, entered service with the United States Army in 1979 and replaced the Bell UH-1 Iroquois as a tactical transport helicopter of the Army. Later electronic warfare and special operations variants of the Black Hawk were fielded. It has also been developed improved UH-60L and UH-60M utility variants.
