The newly acquired twenty-eight NH90 helicopters of Qatar will be equipped with RTM322 engines, said Safran on March 28.
Safran Helicopter Engines that is the world’s leading manufacturer of helicopter engines with address of the Head Office in Paris (France) has been selected by Qatar as engine supplier of its new NH90s.
The exact version that will be integrated in Qatar’s NH90s is RTM322-01/9A, which shows 7% power increase over the RTM322-01/9 baseline version. Thanks to that additional power the mission capabilities in difficult conditions will be improved.
“The RTM322 has once again demonstrated that it is the best engine for the NH90. Since our acquisition of the program in 2013, we have generated a high level of operator satisfaction through increasing engine robustness and operability, and by implementing simpler and more efficient maintenance practices,” said Florent Chauvancy, VP ‘Heavy Helicopter Engine Programs’ at Safran Helicopter Engines.
Sixteen of the NH90 helicopters in tactical configuration will be assembled at Airbus Helicopters in Marignane and the rest twelve ones in naval configuration – at Leonardo Venice-Tessera facility in Northern Italy.
The RTM322s are 2,100 to 2,600 shp engines. They are intended for ten-to-fifteen tonne military helicopters operated in extremely demanding environments.
As of the moment, 80 % of the NH90s worldwide have Safran Helicopter Engines.
Sixteen Qatar’s H125 light single-engine helicopters in training configuration for the Qatar Armed Forces Air Academy will also be powered by Safran’s engines – Arriel 2D as part of this agreement for supplying of engines.
