S-400 jointly with A-50 AEW&C shot down Su-27 and MiG-29 – Russia
As per the notions projected by Russian media, a pair of Ukrainian aircraft were reportedly downed on November 7th within the proximity of the so-called “special military operation” zone — a terminology deployed by Russia about the conflict in Ukraine. The aircraft involved, as reported by Russian newspaper Izvestia, consist of a Su-27 and a MiG-29 of Ukrainian origin.

“The air defense systems were reportedly instrumental in bringing down two Ukrainian Air Force aircraft: an Su-27 close to Brigadovka in the Kharkiv region, and a MiG-29 near Roskoshnoe in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic,” remarked the Russian Defense Ministry in an official statement.
Vzglyad says
There was, however, no disclosure from either Izvestia or the Russian Defense Ministry about the specific type of anti-aircraft system employed in downing the two Ukrainian aircraft. Nonetheless, an ancillary Russian media outlet, Vzglyad, reported that the S-400 in combination with the A-50 AEW&C was wielded on November 7th for intercepting the Ukrainian aircraft.
“The S-400 Triumf anti-aircraft missile system, featuring anti-aircraft guided missiles with active homing warheads, was deployed by the Russian troops in the designated special military operation zone. Coupled with the A-50 long-range radar detection aircraft, the S-400 air defense system overall performance was effective in downing enemy aircraft,” disclosed a source for TASS.
Even though neither Vzglyad nor TASS shed light on the models of the Ukrainian aircraft, as per insights provided by the Russian Defense Ministry, the tally of aircraft downed on the day rested solely at two – the Su-27 and the MiG-29.
S-400 and A-50 collaborative functioning
Reports surfaced for the first instance regarding the collaborative functioning of S-400 and A-40 towards the end of October. This information was disseminated by Russia’s state-dominated TASS news agency, bringing forth news about a fresh arrangement that includes the A-50 long-range radar detection aircraft.
This novel progress came after a declaration by the self-styled Defense Minister Shoigu, where he asserted that 24 aircraft were brought down in only five days.
As reported by the TASS agency, the Beriev A-50 early warning and control aircraft, an asset of the Russian Soviet, launched missiles from the S-400 anti-aircraft missile system targeting Ukrainian aircraft.
As per the report produced by TASS, it is advisable to deliberate on the collective operation of the A-50 and S-400. The report further adds that the S-400 system launched missiles from the furthest possible distance at aerial targets levitating at roughly 1 km, deploying new warheads of anti-aircraft guided missiles.
What else did the Kremlin say on November 7?
The Russian Defense Ministry has reported the interception of two Ukrainian planes, along with two HIMARS multi-launch missile systems, on November 7. The ministry further divulges the successful interception of 33 Ukrainian-operated drones within the populated zones of the Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics, as well as the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
The documentation specifies that the Russian military apparatus decimated personnel and military machinery of the Armed Forces of Ukraine [AFU] across a vast range of 105 regions.
