Ukraine may begin production of 7.62×51 CZ Bren 2 BR assault rifle

Reports indicate that Prague [Czech Republic] is considering a possible transfer of production of the CZ BREN 2 BR assault rifles to Ukraine. According to the information, another military production is also being considered – the ammunition for these assault rifles.

The information comes from the Czech Deputy Minister of Defense Daniel Blazhkovec. He participated in the forum “International Defense Industry Forum”, which was held on September 29.

The Czech official said:

At the forum, Deputy Defense Minister Blažkovec engaged in enlightening dialogues about the critically acclaimed flagship projects. These noteworthy ventures include a significant shift in the production of the Bren 2 “Sich” assault rifle, formerly under the aegis of Česká zbrojovka, and the relocation of small-caliber ammunition production, previously held by the Sellier&Bellot company. 

“We’ve reoriented our focus from mere military aid and supply of done products to an extensive defense-industrial collaboration that is long-term, inclusive of our armed forces, and comprehensive of both public and private sector players from the defense industry,” Blazhkovets outlined. “However, our aspirations are to extend our foothold in this productive alliance even further,” he stressed. 

Bren 2 BR’s technical characteristics

The CZ Bren 2 BR assault rifle is a modern firearm designed and manufactured by Česká zbrojovka, a Czech firearms company. It is a versatile and reliable weapon that is widely used by military and law enforcement agencies around the world.

In terms of technical characteristics, the CZ Bren 2 BR is chambered in 7.62×51 NATO caliber, which is a popular intermediate cartridge. It has a gas-operated, rotating bolt system, which ensures smooth and reliable operation. The rifle has a barrel length of 11 inches and an overall length of 29.5 inches, making it compact and maneuverable in various combat situations.

Bren 2 BR’s design

The design of the CZ Bren 2 BR is based on the highly successful CZ 805 Bren series. It features a polymer lower receiver and an aluminum upper receiver, which provides a good balance between durability and weight reduction.

The rifle has a folding stock, allowing for easy transportation and storage. It also has a Picatinny rail system on the top and sides of the receiver, enabling the attachment of various accessories such as optics, lights, and grips.

One notable feature of the CZ Bren 2 BR is its ambidextrous controls. It has dual-sided fire selector switches, magazine releases, and bolt releases, making it suitable for both right-handed and left-handed shooters. This ambidextrous design enhances the rifle’s versatility and usability in different shooting scenarios.

Ukraine already uses it

The Czech Republic did supply Bren 2 BR assault rifles to Ukraine. The delivery of these rifles took place in 2019. The rifles were provided to Ukraine by the Czech government as part of their support for Ukraine’s defense capabilities. 

The exact number of rifles supplied is not publicly disclosed, but it is known that Ukraine received a significant quantity of these weapons. 

The rifles are being utilized by different services within Ukraine, including the Ukrainian Armed Forces, National Guard, and other security forces. The Bren 2 BR rifles have proven to be effective in enhancing Ukraine’s ability to counter threats and protect its territorial integrity.
