Japanese F-35’s device avoids the engine resonant vibrations

A game-changing regulator is to be installed across the whole fleet of aircraft. Stepping up to the plate as one of the first countries to embrace this modernization was none other than Japan. 

Japan’s Air Force swiftly took action to eradicate these dangerous engine vibrations in their fleet of cutting-edge, US-made F-35 stealth fighters. This move, according to a report in The Japan Times, citing the Ministry of Defense, shows the country’s commitment to safety and innovation. 

So, what’s the big deal about this regulator? It’s designed to counter vibration caused by resonance, thereby protecting the engine control tube from potential damage. But that’s not all. Later this year, the US is set to provide Japan with a new fuel hose design, a strategic move anticipated to further minimize the risk of vibration.

Japan’s commitment to the F-35 program is evident in its plans to acquire a total of 147 F-35A and F-35B aircraft. At a cost of approximately $70 million per unit, it’s clear they’re investing heavily in this revolutionary technology.

Texas 2022

The F-35 accident that occurred last year in Texas was caused by a manufacturing defect in the fuel tube of the aircraft’s Pratt & Whitney engine. The defect caused the tube to rupture during flight, leading to a loss of fuel and ultimately resulting in the crash of the aircraft.

Following the accident, all F-35s were grounded and a thorough investigation was conducted to identify the cause of the failure. It was discovered that the defect was present in a small number of engines and steps were taken to replace the faulty fuel tubes in all F-35s.

F-35 technological incidents

This issue was caused by the seat’s headrest not properly supporting lighter pilots during ejection. The problem was resolved by adding weight to the seat to simulate a heavier pilot.

Additionally, the F-35 has faced criticism for its high cost and delays in production. The program has been plagued by cost overruns and technical issues, leading to calls for the project to be canceled or scaled back.
