Close US ally has been preparing a delivery of ammunition to Russia

WASHINGTON, US — The international community continues to learn data from the leaked secret documents from the Pentagon. As we previously reported, Bulgaria was ready to deliver its MiG-29s to Ukraine, according to the information in these documents. Today, another piece of news, again emerging from the leaked documents, is attracting attention.

One of the US’s closest allies in the Middle East has been preparing a delivery of missiles to Russia. It is about Egypt. Cairo is Washington’s key partner in the region. In recent years, the African country has been a recipient of American weapons. The partnership is so strong that Egypt is home to the only Abrams tank plant outside the US.

The leaked document contains a transcript of an intercepted conversation between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and a senior Egyptian officer. The conversation discussed the secret shipment of 40,000 missiles to Russia. According to the Washington Post, in addition to missiles, ammunition, and gunpowder were also discussed for delivery to Russia. The document is dated February 17.

BulgarianMilitary.com recalls that Egypt was about to acquire Russian Su-35 Flanker-E fighters. In the latter, Cairo canceled the order, but Russia had produced one part of them. The reason for the cancellation, according to a Cairo official, was a problem with the plane. Analysts suggest, however, that there was pressure from Washington and the threat of economic sanctions through the CAATSA law. Egypt subsequently purchased 24 Eurofighter Typhoon fighters.

Official statements

A Cairo official denied the claims in the leaked documents cited by the Washington Post. “This is information nonsense,” declared a senior Egyptian official. He denied that Egypt had intentions to deliver 40,000 missiles to Russia and recalled that his country follows a “balanced policy” with all countries in the world.

A similar statement was made by the coordinator of the National Security Council in the White House, John Kirby. He made the remarks from aboard Air Force One, saying the US had seen no indication that Egypt had provided lethal weapons to Russia. He confirmed cooperation with Egypt, thereby implying that it remains guaranteed to be secure.

A statement in the same tone arrived from Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. Peskov called the information in the leaked documents “another hoax”.

The leak of documents is being investigated by the Pentagon. According to US officials, some of them are authentic. Some of these documents contain intelligence markers. These documents writes CNN, show how the US government spies on its allies. There are claims in the US that these documents will cause serious damage to the US administration, but perhaps more damage to the intelligence services. These documents may endanger sensitive sources, the British media also writes.
