Watch: Suicide attack of Ukrainian M113s on the Zaporozhye Front
KYIV, UKRAINE — A video is being circulated on Telegram which is said to show the failed attack of the Ukrainian armed forces in one of the last battles a few days ago on the Zaporozhye front. We previously reported that fierce fighting was taking place both in this area and on the outskirts of Bakhmut.
The full video shows the defeat of the delivered M113 / YPR-765 armored vehicles. The video footage of the tactics of the Ukrainian armed forces shows their failure to break through the defenses of the Russian 291st regiment. During this attack, part of the American-Dutch M113 / YPR-765 armored personnel carriers was destroyed. In this way, a part of the entire armored group of the Ukrainian regiment in the region was also destroyed.
According to initial reports, the idea was for the Ukrainian armored group to move closer to Russian positions to conduct reconnaissance. The armored party falls into a trap and fails, being routed.
Another perspective
On March 18th, we showed another video of the active use of the M113 / YPR-765. The point of view in this video is from the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The video is shot in a very close-up and shows up close to what the M113 / YPR-765 is like in real combat.
Although we are in the 21st century, the video seems to show us a picture from the Second World War. Against the background of the apocalyptic sky, and muddy and plowed fields, the M113 maneuvers under the roar of machine guns. Soldiers in the trenches are firing fiercely and trying to advance or not lose the captured position.
Both videos show that Ukraine will need more M113s, even more, diverse and modern armored vehicles for the infantry. The M113 is a great armored personnel carrier, but in today’s conditions, it is much more vulnerable. The M113 is much easier to turn into a metal coffin and trap today than it used to be. It cannot be denied, however, that Ukraine is trying to cope with what it has and has been delivered.
2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine
On 21 February 2022, Russia claimed that Ukrainian shelling had destroyed an FSB border facility. Russia claimed that it had killed 5 Ukrainian soldiers. They tried to cross into Russian territory. Ukraine denied being involved in both incidents and called them a false flag.
On the same day, the Russian government formally recognized the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR. According to Putin not only in their de-facto controlled areas, but the Ukrainian Oblasts as a whole. Putin ordered Russian troops, including tanks, to enter the regions.
On 24 February 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an invasion of Ukraine by Russian Armed Forces previously concentrated along the border. The invasion followed by targeted airstrikes of military buildings in the country, as well as tanks entering via the Belarus border.
Russia has so far not recognized the invasion of Ukraine as a “war”, although that is exactly what it is, claiming that it is a “special military operation”. According to the UN, a “special military operation” can only take place after a UN resolution. There is no such resolution. So this is an invasion and war against Ukraine.
