RPG round mounted in a drone’s nose cone will engage Russian tanks

KYIV, UKRAINE — Russian tanks on the battlefield will have to deal with a new weapon integration, including the most advanced Russian tank currently in Ukraine, the T-90M Proryv. A video of the integration of an RPG round in a drone’s nose cone is circulating on the web.

The video shows a trainer [English speaking] explaining to Ukrainian soldiers how to integrate an RGP round into a drone, turning the drone into a kamikaze. At the base of the drone is a plane, or rail base. An RPG round is placed on it. It is fixed in an elementary way – by wrapping it with tape. After that, the protective cap of the detonating penetrator is removed.

I.e. The whole process of making this improvised ammunition doesn’t take very long. At first, it appears that the drone can tip over on its nose due to the weight of the RPG round. However, this does not happen. Most likely, the Ukrainians applied tire balancing counterweights at the rear.

The operator was able to record the entire process from integration to the destruction of the enemy position. A video camera also mounted on the nose of the drone recorded the last seconds of its existence before it exploded. The author of the video claims that the drone successfully hit the Russian position inaccurately, but close to it.

In fact, the test aims to show that a drone with an RPG round can be turned into a makeshift launch vehicle. The author of the video is not disappointed by the failure to hit the Russian target. On the contrary, this test, he says, proves that such a configuration is possible and will work. Wants better targeting and a better operator obviously. I.e. the problem is not the homemade launch vehicle.

However, there is still no information available, and with the successful targeting of the drone, the effectiveness of an RPG round on a Russian armored chassis will be successful. Let’s not forget that a rocket fired from a handheld grenade launcher has a much higher velocity, which is one of the main reasons that an RPG round does a lot of damage [besides the charge]. In this case, the drone cannot reach this speed. Therefore, the effectiveness of this configuration is questioned.

2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine

On 21 February 2022, Russia claimed that Ukrainian shelling had destroyed an FSB border facility. Russia claimed that it had killed 5 Ukrainian soldiers. They tried to cross into Russian territory. Ukraine denied being involved in both incidents and called them a false flag.

On the same day, the Russian government formally recognized the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR. According to Putin not only in their de-facto controlled areas, but the Ukrainian Oblasts as a whole. Putin ordered Russian troops, including tanks, to enter the regions.

On 24 February 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an invasion of Ukraine by Russian Armed Forces previously concentrated along the border. The invasion followed by targeted airstrikes of military buildings in the country, as well as tanks entering via the Belarus border.

Russia has so far not recognized the invasion of Ukraine as a “war”, although that is exactly what it is, claiming that it is a “special military operation”. According to the UN, a “special military operation” can only take place after a UN resolution. There is no such resolution. So this is an invasion and war against Ukraine.
