US M1224 MaxxPro MRAP – attacked, shelled, boned, and abandoned
KYIV, UKRAINE — The war in Ukraine continues and there is no prospect of it stopping, at least for now. Photos of the operational performance of weapon platforms continue to flood the web. As well as photos of military platforms that suffered defeat – both Russian and Ukrainian.

Photos arriving in the last 24 hours show the end of the war for an American International M1224 MaxxPro mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicle [MRAP]. This MPAP was supplied by the US to the armed forces of Ukraine.
The vehicle is seen to have been heavily shelled. There are at least 20 gunshot marks on the cockpit’s armored glass, as well as the vehicle’s turret weapon system safety glass.
Abandoned at the end of a forest road, the M1224 MaxxPro has a destroyed engine cowling. It is not known if the engine is complete at all, but the side of the passenger door shows the marks of several more shots. The machine gun from the vehicle’s turret has been removed.

It appears that the American armored vehicle came under heavy Russian fire. Completely non-functional, the M1224 MaxxPro is gutted and abandoned. According to a source in Telegram, the attack on the armored vehicle was carried out in the area of the city of Vuhledar, Donetsk.
The M1224 MaxxPro is an armored vehicle designed for infantry forces. So far, according to open data, about 9,000 units have been produced. The design was completed in 2007 when serial production also began until today. At least 20 countries currently operate the M1224 MaxxPro.
The armored mine resistance vehicle is powerful and meets the requirements of the Ukrainian landscape and geographical infrastructure. A 9.3 liter 570 cubic inches MaxxForce D9.3I6 I6 engine delivers 330 horsepower. The vehicle’s transmission is an Allison 3000 5-speed automatic. The suspension is as expected for a military vehicle – 4×4, wheeled semi-elliptical leaf springs.

Although the M1224 MaxxPro was created at the beginning of the new millennium, the vehicle already has quite a lot of combat experience, thanks mostly to the US Army. In addition to Ukraine, the M1224 MaxxPro has served in the Iraq War, the Afghanistan War, and the Syrian Civil War.
The Russian equivalent of the American M1224 MaxxPro is the Typhoon VDV 4×4. A larger Typhoon MRAP platform was initially developed in 2019. Two years later, the Typhoon VDV 4×4 appeared. This vehicle is armed with a 30 mm 2A42 autocannon and can transport up to eight personnel. The Typhoon VDV 4×4 is used by the Russian Airborne Forces.

The Russian Typhoon VDV 4×4 MRAP also saw action in the Russian-Ukrainian war and was also attacked, boned and abandoned. Basically, this type of vehicle [Russian and American MPAP] is often the victim of massive shelling.
