Serial production of the new Kalashnikov sniper rifle has begun

MOSCOW, RUSSIA — Kalashnikov has started mass production of the latest Chukavin sniper rifle [SVCH], the president of the concern, Mr. Alan Lushnikov, announced during the IDEX 2023 exhibition.

“The Chukavin rifle passed the state tests. The production of the new sniper rifle has started in the interest of the customer,” TASS quoted him as saying. Mr. Lushnikov added that the letter “O1” was assigned to the design documentation of the rifle for mass production.

Recall that in January, when the first batch of 7.62 x 54 mm sniper rifles was released, Kalashnikov spoke about the advantages of the Chukavin rifle.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense signed contracts for the supply of new Chukavin sniper rifles for the troops, they should replace the SVD.

Chukavin is a semi-automatic sniper rifle designed for two types of cartridges: 7.62 x 54 mm and 7.62 x 51 mm [.308 Win]. The maximum effective distance is more than 2.5 km. The rifle accelerates its bullet to 900 m/s [almost three times the speed of sound]. Its weight is 9.7 kg.

It can be used in a temperature range from – 35 to + 55 degrees Celsius. There is no magazine and it is manually loaded. The barrel box is made of aircraft-grade aluminum with a high-alloy stainless steel thread insert.

BulgarianMilitary.com reported that in September last year, the Kalashnikov concern tested the Chukavin in Ukraine. A source of the military-industrial complex stated this to the Russian media RIA Novosti. According to the source, a batch [unnamed quantity] of the Chukavin sniper rifle was delivered to the Russian special forces operating in Ukraine – Spetsnaz.

Kalashnikov describes its rifle as “a new generation of long-range rifles.” According to the requirements, the Chukavin SVCh should fire the first round, hitting a target at a distance of 1 km. The sniper rifle weighs up to 4.5 kg with a magazine capacity of 10 rounds in total. Chukavin SVCh is 1.15 meters long.
