Russia: We remind Greece that it has no right to transfer S-300

MOSCOW ($1=73.50 Russian Rubles) — Russian Foreign Minister Mr. Sergei Lavrov made statements regarding the Greek batteries of the S-300 anti-aircraft missile system, which are said to be sent to Ukraine.

Evaluating the issues on the agenda of the Russian state television channel “Pervyi Kanal”, Lavrov also mentioned the possibility of Greece supplying Ukraine with S-300 air defense systems.

Recalling that these systems were initially planned to be placed in southern Cyprus and eventually delivered to Greece, Lavrov said: “We have instructed our ambassador to remind him that these systems have been delivered to Greece by contacting the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece. According to the agreement, Greece has no right to transfer these systems to anyone without our permission. We reminded the Greeks of this. They told us they were careful with their commitments.”

Saying they are closely monitoring such issues, Lavrov said: “We must be vigilant. Because many illegal things are done with the slogan “We will save Ukraine because Ukraine is Europe.”

BulgarianMilitary.com reported on December 17 that barter is possible to replace the Soviet S-300 with the American Patriot air defense systems. Barter is possible in the Balkans and depends on the US. The country that is ready to supply S-300 to Ukraine from the inventory of its anti-aircraft missile forces in Greece. This is clear from a statement by the Greek Minister of National Defense, Mr. Nikos Panaiotopoulos.

Ukraine needs anti-aircraft missile systems much more now to counter Russian air attacks. Russia is attacking critical energy infrastructures and other infrastructures in Ukraine. However, Kyiv is currently unable to successfully counter these attacks. Although Ukraine received the German IRIS-T air defense system, as well as the Norwegian-American NASAMS, the quantities delivered were small. Last but not least, they are located near Kyiv to ensure the security of the city.
