Over the next five years, the Polish military industry will repair and service the American F-16 fighter jets of the United States Air Force in Europe. The Polish Military Aviation Plant No. 2 in Bydgoszcz, belonging to Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa [WZL No. 2] is the repair site for American fighter jets. The agreement between the Polish company and the American company AAR Government Services INC was signed in July this year, and the first fighter for service and repair has already been accepted in the production workshops of the plant.

WZL No. 2 will do all kinds of repairs, the media say. This also includes refurbishing the avionics, landing gear and paint and camouflage areas, explained Mr. Szymon Dankowski, board member and director of product development and quality at WZL No. 2. At the moment, there is no information on how many F-16s will be repaired at the Polish plant. It is a trade secret, the Polish company says, but the agreement between the two companies guarantees an increase in the number of repaired aircraft every year.

The American company is one of the leaders in the USA for the repair of combat aircraft. It concludes similar contracts with local producers around the world, including in the conflict region of the Middle East. The Polish media and society commented that the chance they got for F-16 repair work opened wide the door to gain access to know-how and new technologies.

The first F-16 fighters have already arrived at WZL No. 2. Their acceptance was officially finalized by the Prime Minister, Mr. Mateusz Morawiecki, and the US Ambassador to Poland, Mr. Mark Brzezinski. Mr. Morawiecki recalled that Poland must ensure its security by creating a strong Polish army and investing in such inter-corporate agreements.

BulgarianMilitary.com adds that Poland has drastically increased its defense budget. In addition to operating US F-16s, Warsaw has agreed with Washington to acquire fifth-generation F-35 Lightning II fighter jets.

In recent months, due to the war in Ukraine and the growing tension on the Russia-West axis, Poland has made large-scale investments in its defense. The billions of USD remain the most significant so far. that Warsaw will give for the acquisition of 1,000 K2 Black Panther tanks and hundreds of K2 Thunder self-propelled howitzers from South Korea. Last but not least, Warsaw is increasing its fleet with 48 T-50 Golden Eagle light attack fighters, also from South Korea.
