US Army’s elite ‘Screaming Eagles’: We enter Ukraine if…
BUCHAREST ($1=4.94 Romaina Leus) — The US Army’s 101st Airborne Division is ready to enter Ukraine “even tonight” if Russia attacks NATO territory. This is what Colonel Edwin Matthaidess, Commander of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team on the border between Romania and Ukraine, said about ten days ago.

- Watch: Ukrainian infantry and special forces train in Britain
- Maneuvers of Russian and Chinese warships in the Pacific Ocean
- Military maneuvers of 4,200 NATO soldiers on the Russian border
The US Army’s 101st Airborne Division is the closest army part of the US Army structure to the Ukraine-Russia war. They arrived in Romania to conduct regular exercises “to keep them on their toes”. This is the first deployment of the US Army’s 101st Airborne Division to Europe in 80 years, which is indicative of the seriousness of the situation.
The nickname of the US Army’s 101st Airborne Division is the Screaming Eagles. 4,700 “Screaming eagles” were sent to Europe. This battle group is highly mobile, able to deploy within hours to any point on the planet. They specialize in ground and air attack and defense. The 101st Airborne Division is one of America’s most elite airborne divisions with some heavy equipment.
Matthaidess commented that their squad was “watching the war live”. This is exactly what NATO allies train on Romanian territory – Ukrainian and Russian tactics, defense, and attack tailored to the field conditions of the region and geography.
In Romania, the US Army’s 101st Airborne Division practices ground attack and defense with real shells fired from artillery systems, and real tanks in an “almost” real combat environment. “The real meaning for me, to have the American troops here, is like if you were to have allies in Normandy before any enemy was there,” Romanian Major General Lulian Berdila told CBS News
The presence of the US Army’s 101st Airborne Division has been both welcomed and has drawn negative comments. Some European citizens are expressing their concerns on social media that the US is not taking measures to resolve the conflict, but rather escalating it.
Others believe that the presence of the elite units of the US army in this particular region is a “deafening” signal for Russian President Mr. Vladimir Putin. I.e. any Russian mistake or attempt to break even within an inch of NATO’s borders would not only be instantly deterred but would also allow allied troops to officially enter Ukraine.
