Richard Marles, Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister, and Defense Minister told the media on October 15 that achieving initial operational readiness for the Boxer CRV means it will be able to enter service meeting the Army’s requirements.

“The Boxer CRV is the most advanced reconnaissance vehicle in service with the Australian Army. It provides enhanced defensive, offensive, and digital capabilities and enables safe operation in hostile environments and during peacekeeping missions,” Gary Stewart, Managing Director, Rheinmetall Defense Australia

Rheinmetall AG is currently the largest supplier of vehicles to the Australian Armed Forces. There are now over 2,900 Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles [RMMV] trucks in service with the military. Deliveries of 211 Boxer CRVs and another 490 trucks are also planned.

In August 2018, the Ministry of Defense of Australia concluded a contract with Rheinmetall Defense Australia for the purchase of 211 units of wheeled combat vehicles of the Boxer family as part of the technical modernization program Land 400 Phase 2. The total value of the contract is about EUR 2.1 billion, and deliveries should be made in 2019-2026.

Among the machines ordered, 133 machines are to be delivered in the Boxer CRV wheeled reconnaissance vehicle. The remaining vehicles will be delivered in command, medical evacuation, fire control, surveillance, armored personnel carrier, and technical support variants.
