Poland inks Chunmoo K239 MRLs deal integrated with Jelcz trucks
WARSAW ($1=4.94 Polish Zlotys) — Poland will sign a contract for the acquisition and delivery of a multiple rocket launcher from South Korea. This is the production and delivery of the first 18 Chunmoo K239 MRLs out of 300 from Hanwha Defense. They will be integrated into the Polish Jelcz chassis.

The integration of Chunmoo K239 MRLs into Polish defense and reaching full combat capabilities is expected to occur in 2023.
The Polish media informs that the signing of the agreement will take place between October 17-19. Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak will then be in South Korea for the official handover ceremony of K2 tanks and K9 self-propelled howitzers. Lee Yong-sup, Minister of Defense of the Republic of South Korea will host his guest from Warsaw. Future cooperation in the field of joint defense projects between Poland and South Korea will also be discussed.
The official handover ceremony for the first Polish K2PL tanks and K9 self-propelled howitzers will take place on Wednesday, October 19. Poland ordered 1,000 K2 tanks, its Polish version, the K2PL, and 672 K9A1 self-propelled howitzers, and its Polonized development version of the K9PL.
About Chunmoo K239 MRL
The Chunmoo K239 is a Korean MRL that was developed by Hanwha Defense in 2013 to replace the obsolete K136 Kooryong. Since 2015, the weapon missile system has been in service in South Korea. In addition to South Korea, the United Arab Emirates also operates this system, purchasing a total of 12 units. Norway is a potential customer of Chunmoo K239 MRL.
Chunmoo K239 MRL has no combat experience. A total of 218 units have been produced to date. The original Chunmoo K239 MRL weighs 31 tons and is 9 meters long. Operated by a crew of three.
The Chunmoo K239 MRL can fire different caliber ammunition, making it highly flexible in terms of its use. The system fires 131 mm [K33] rockets, 230 mm [KM26A2] rockets, 239 mm [GPS-aided INS] rockets, 400 mm [GPS-aided INS] missiles and 600 mm [KTSSM-II] missiles. Accordingly, the range is different, starting from 36 km and reaching 290 km.
The main armament of the Chunmoo K239 MRL is unguided and guided missiles of the calibers mentioned above. The latest caliber – 600mm missile KTSSM-II is a tactical ballistic missile that is under development.
