Within the framework of the state defense order, a major overhaul of all units was carried out. The howitzer is equipped with an automated aiming and fire control system.
When bringing the self-propelled howitzer up to the level of the 2S19M2, the aiming speed was improved, as well as the accuracy. 155mm and 152.4mm Msta-S SPH
As we reprted in mid-september, Russia has developed a NATO caliber 155mm on its best Msta-S self-propelled howitzer. This is reported by the Russian media, citing the Russian company Rosoboronexport. The howitzer with the new caliber was presented at the ADEX defense exhibition in Azerbaijan.
Currently, Msta-S has a caliber of 152.4 mm. This is a common Russian standard that serves different artillery guns in the same caliber. Azerbaijan also operates 155mm caliber on some of its artillery pieces. The situation is similar in some countries in the Caucasian and Asian regions. Russia will try to offer the Msta-S precisely in this market and for this reason, has developed a NATO-caliber version.
Msta-S in Ukraine
Despite the imposed economic sanctions, the Russian tank plant UralTransMash continues to produce the Msta-S self-propelled howitzers. The last delivery for the war in Ukraine of Msta-S was made in August. This delivery was with modernized Msta-S – a new automated fire guidance and control system.
Msta-S is the main artillery in the Russian armed forces in Ukraine. It is powered by a diesel engine providing 840 horsepower. The maximum range of the projectile is up to 36 km, but it depends on its type. Msta-S is famous for its fast work during military operations. Within one minute, it can fire up to 10 projectiles, which is a serious competitive advantage.
