Modernized T-90 tanks leave the UralVagonZavod assembly line

MOSCOW ($1=61.03 Russian Rubles) — The last T-90M Proryv tanks to leave the UralVagonZavod assembly line have been upgraded. This is what the Russian online portal Lenta.ru is talking about, referring to a publication in TASS. According to TASS, the last produced T-90M Proryv units can be considered completely new tanks.

A new turret is integrated into the design of the tank. In this way, the Russians have increased the internal volume of the armor. The new turret is said to have improved the overall protection of the tank. A part of the used ammunition now has another location in the tank – a box that is completely isolated from the turret. Thus, if the tower is hit, there will be no explosion – something we have seen in recent months in Ukraine.

The Relikt modular defense complex has also been replaced. From the second generation, the Russians have developed and integrated the third generation. However, the sources did not provide more information about the changed performance of the new Relikt compared to the old version.

T-90M Proryv also got a new gun – 125mm. For the Russians, this is important, as the new gun will allow them to increase the type of ammunition used. I.e. The T-90M Proryv will now be able to fire sub-caliber ammunition and guided missiles. Also, the sight channel and sight of the main gun have been replaced with new ones that allow identifying a tank at a distance of 5 km.

The T-90M Proryv can now communicate and cooperate with drones. This was achieved thanks to Sozvezdie-M2 – a new tactical network control system. In this way, the tank gets the real opportunity to “shoot blindly” – the drone marks the target, gives the coordinates to the tank, and the tank fires.

According to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, 12 new formations are expected to be established by the end of the year in the Western Military District.

Russia is creating new military units and sending T-90 tanks to the Western Military District as a caveat to NATO’s actions, Russian media write. According to Russian experts, the T-90 Proryv is in no way inferior to the T-14 Armata. BulgarianMilitary.com recalls that the T-14 Armata project is at a standstill. Only about 20 tanks were produced in the last two years. This tank is considered the best in the world, but in reality, it has neither combat experience nor information about the results of conducted tests.

Despite the imposed economic sanctions, and the lack of Western consumables, integrated systems, and chips, UralVagonZavod has not stopped supplying the Russian army with the necessary military heavy armored equipment. However, production rates are slower and more limited, and production facilities are not used to their full capacity. The last orders from the Kremlin were for the factories of the military-industrial complex, including the UravVagonZavod, to increase the working day to 12 hours, as well as to allow the possibility of additional work at night.

Russia continues to lose tanks in the war with Ukraine. For this reason, the Ministry of Defense decided to build two large repair plants on the outskirts of Moscow and Roston. The reason is that Russian mobile repair teams are not able to carry out field repairs.
