Poland wants 96 AH-64E attack helicopters with LongBow radar

WARSAW ($1=4.66 Polish Zlotys) — Poland has requested the US to supply 96 AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters. Poland will also achieve technology transfer.

Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak announced that a request has been made to the US for the delivery of 96 AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters. According to the statement, Poland will also receive technology transfer with the delivery of these helicopters.

Previously, PGZ had started license production of the Sikorsky S-70i Black Hawk Utility Helicopter. It is believed that the AH-64E will also be produced by PGZ as part of the technology transfer.

At the international defense industry fair MSPO, held in Poland between August 6-9, 2022, the US displayed attack helicopters of the AH-64 and AH-1Z types. The AH-64 shown is equipped with a LongBow radar.

After the beginning of the Ukrainian-Russian war, Poland significantly increased the supply of weapons. The M1A2 SEPV3 main battle tank, the K2 Black Panther main battle tank, the K9 Thunder self-propelled howitzer, the FA-50 light fighter, and the AW149 represent an important part of the defense products that Poland recently ordered.

AH-64E Apache Guardian

The AH-64E Apache Guardian, the most advanced configuration of the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter developed by Boeing and which made its first flight on September 30, 1975, first entered service in 2011. So far, 500 AH- 64E, is preferred by the US, United Arab Emirates, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Indonesia, and India.

The AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopter is operated by a crew of two, one pilot and one weapon operator. It has a length of 17.8 meters, the main rotor diameter of 14.8 meters, a height of 4.9 meters, and a maximum weight of 10.5 tons. The helicopter, which has a top speed of 302 km/h and a range of approximately 500 km, is equipped with two General Electric T700-701D Turboshaft engines.

The Apache Guardian can carry a maximum of 16 Hellfire anti-tank missiles, 76 Hydra 70 missiles or 76 APKWS rounds, 1200 rounds for the 30mm cannon, and 2 air-to-air missiles [Stinger, AIM-9 Sidewinder, Mistral, Sidearm].
