Ukraine gets 13in laser-guided Hellfire missiles from Norway
OSLO ($1=10.08 Norwegian Krones) — Norway will transfer approximately 160 laser-guided Hellfire missiles to Ukraine. Together with them, the armed forces will receive launchers and guidance devices necessary for firing at a given target. This was announced by the Ministry of Defense of the country.

Norway will also hand night vision equipment from the arsenal of the country’s armed forces. The arms transfer was announced by Norwegian Defense Minister Bjorn Arild Gramm during today’s meeting of the Contact Group for Support of Ukraine, which is being held at the US Ramstein Air Base in Germany.
Norway was buying these missiles for its Coastal Ranger Commando amphibious unit trained to operate in coastal theaters of war. It performs the role of the Marine Corps and Coastal Artillery.
“This is the weapon that Ukraine requested and it will be useful in the fight against the Russian armed forces. The missile is easy to operate, it can be used against both land and sea targets,” said the Norwegian minister.
Norway’s armed forces checked the condition of the missiles before they were sent, and Ukrainian operators have already been trained to use the Hellfire. The Hellfire ground-based missile launcher can be transported by the vehicle or carried by hand. It can also be mounted on mobile platforms.
The complex includes several main components:
- a remote-controlled launcher and, in fact, the Hellfire missile itself,
- optical-electronic station for observation and guidance,
- operator panel.
The missiles are equipped with a 9-kilogram warhead and have a range of about 8 kilometers. Their targeting is carried out with the help of laser illumination (laser target pointer) of the striking object. The length of the rocket is 163 centimeters, and the diameter is 17.8 centimeters. The elements of the complex are interconnected by cables.
