Russia is creating two repair plants for its damaged tanks
KYIV ($1=36.80 Ukrainian Hryvnias) — Two new armored plants may appear at the Ministry of Defense of Russia. This is reported by Ukrinform, referring to the Russian media. Enterprises must be established in the Moscow and Rostov regions of the Russian Federation.
- Burnt tanks return to Russia, repair plants refuse repairs
- Russia doesn’t produce tanks, UralVagonZavod with half production
- Not enough missiles, Russia uses S-300 as surface-to-surface launcher
The Ministry of the Russian Federation defines the main task of these factories as follows: “repair of armored weapons and equipment, automotive equipment for the benefit of defense.”
The 71st plant for the repair of armored cars will appear in Ramensky, Moscow region, and the 72nd plant – in the city of Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, Rostov region, near the border with Ukraine. It is planned that 365 jobs will be created in the first plant, and 227 in the second.
The Prime Minister of Russia, Mikhail Mishustin, instructed the Ministry of Defense within two months to appoint heads of factories and provide land for the indefinite use of enterprises. Their registration is expected to take place in four months.
Most of the damaged equipment is transported by the Russian military to the territory of their country for further repair. After all, Russian repair brigades are not able to carry out the quality aggregate restoration of damaged tanks in real field conditions.
At the same time, the Russians cannot carry out qualified repair and maintenance of their equipment in the occupied territory of Ukraine – such points are constantly under fire from the armed forces of the Ukrainian army.
The Kremlin is mobilizing businesses
More recently, the Kremlin decided to carry out a full mobilization of enterprises in Russia. According to Ukraine’s intelligence, it was precisely the problems with the repairs of the returned military equipment that caused Russian President Vladimir Putin to resort to this move.
It is expected, the Ukrainian intelligence report says, that very soon a law will appear in Russia that will oblige legal entities to enter into contracts under state orders on military terms. This means working night shifts, working on holidays and weekends, and changing vacations. In Russia, however, contracts concluded under military conditions do not provide for overtime compensation. This law, Ukraine says, will deserve material assets from the state reserve, mobilization capacities, and sites.
Repaired in the field
As we reported on July 6, Russian repair plants refuse to repair military heavy armored vehicles returned from the war in Ukraine. This includes mostly tanks and armored vehicles for the infantry. The reason: much of the equipment is returned with burnt bodies and repair is impossible. This is stated in a report of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
According to intelligence, there is a lack of components and money for this type of repair. The same report claims that directors of such repair plants are giving instructions not to accept such badly burned machinery for repair. At the moment, however, there is no officially confirmed information from the Russian side.
The less damaged equipment is being repaired in the field, Ukrainian intelligence also said. Moscow has created mobile repair teams that are sent to the battlefield and are supposed to repair less damaged and unburned equipment on the spot, installing new parts and assemblies.
