Ukrainians use Daimler-based British Ferret Mk 1/1 armored vehicle

KYIV ($1=36.85 Ukrainian Hryvnias) — The Armed Forces of Ukraine are increasingly using a variety of foreign-made equipment. Recently, a short video of auto equipment intended for the Ukrainian military was published on Twitter.

On the Ukraine Weapons Tracker page, it was reported that fourteen Snatch Land Rover armored jeeps, three Vector Pinzgauer 718 6×6 patrol cars, and one Ferret Mk 1 armored reconnaissance vehicle will go to the front line in the coming days.

The Ferret car was created in 1947-1950 based on the Daimler armored reconnaissance vehicle of the Second World War. It was serially produced from 1952 to 1971 in several variants, including an ATGM carrier.

The Ferret was used by the British Army as a means of communication and intelligence and surveillance, in addition, about half of the vehicles produced were delivered to various countries. A total of 4,409 armored vehicles were produced.

Ferret Mk 1 is the base version of the 1954 model. Combat weight – 4.2 tons. The crew consists of 2-3 people. It can develop a speed of up to 93 km/h.

This British light armored reconnaissance vehicle from the 1950s can be armed with a 7.62mm machine gun which is openly mounted on an articulated mount. There is no dome and an armored roof over the fighting compartment, the armor thickness is 10 mm.

M113

Last week, the military of the Armed Forces of Ukraine displayed the transferred M113 tracked armored personnel carriers. In the spring, the US prepared to transfer a number of M113 armored personnel carriers as part of the US initiative to support Ukraine.

The M113 light general purpose vehicle is the primary tracked armored personnel carrier in service with the US Army’s mechanized forces. In the basic configuration, the M113 was armed with a 12.7 mm machine gun and equipped with a gasoline engine. It was subsequently modernized several times.

The M113 is capable of transporting a landing force of up to 11 people, as well as serving as the basis for several dozen specialized vehicles.
