Drawings of a Russian copy of the B-2 Spirit bomber surfaced
WASHINGTON — Patent drawings show that Russia intends, or is developing, a bomber very similar to the American B-2 Spirit. The documents and drawings were submitted at the beginning of the year.

The patent was filed by Tupolev – the Russian manufacturer of bombers, the most famous of which are the Tu-95 and Tu-160. The patent concerns a change in the suction valve. In this case – the intake valve is shown inside the aircraft. The entrance is shown from the front, top, and side. Another interesting fact is the similarity of the Russian bomber with the American B-2 Spirit – a sharp beak, the cockpit is also moved forward, the engine openings are in the same place as the B-2 Spirit – on the upper surfaces of the wing/fuselage.
There is no official proof that this is the concept of the long-developed PAK DA bomber. But from the available official and unofficial information collected over the years, the blueprints fit the alleged Russian concept. Russia has been developing the PAK DA since 2007.
However, there are also differences between this Russian bomber and the American B-2 Spirit. The Russian bomber has a pronounced curved wing, while the B-2 has a pronounced serrated trailing edge of the wing. The trailing edge on the Russian bomber is also different and more closely resembles the trailing edge of the Russian S-70 Okhotnik attack drone. Most likely, the concept and pi both follow the same line of development.
American analysts note a difference in the drive concept as well. The Russian bomber will most likely have two engines, which will bring out the exhaust gases through the trailing edge. Not as well cloaked as the B-2, which not only hides its four turbofans well, but the design of the B-2 allows them to be cloaked, which is good for reducing the radar cross-section. Experts say that low visibility is most difficult to achieve precision in the design of the engine structures – not only in these bombers but in general.
At the moment, it is impossible to say how low the radar visibility of this Russian bomber will be. The drawings do not show the coatings, aperture design, or structural design solutions that would suppress radars. Experts say that Russian engineers will most likely strive to achieve a balance between technology, performance, and cost per unit. There is an option for the budget to reduce the design, and if we now assume that the bomber will be stealthy, it is not known whether it will not be more in the class of low observable [LO] and not very low observable [VLO].
About the characteristics of the Russian bomber – we know a lot, but only provided by the Russian side. However, she often initially “wants everything” and then settles for “what has been achieved so far”. I.e. the information is assumed and we do not know if the characteristics will be the same.
At first reading – the bomber will fly at a distance of 15,000 kilometers without refueling the fuel tank. It is supposed to weigh 160 tons and carry 33-35 tons of weapons. Most likely PAK DA will be equipped with Russia’s latest missiles, next-generation missiles, long-range missiles like Kh-101/102, conventional weapons like Kh-101 [known to NATO as AS-23A Kodiak], nuclear missiles of the Kh-102 type.
