First ignition of Turkish KTJ-1750 turbojet engine for Cakir missile

ANKARA ($1=16.76 Turkish Liras) — The first ignition of the KTJ-1750 turbojet engine developed by Kale Arge was performed. The KTJ-1750 will be used in the Cakir family of cruise missiles being developed by Roketsan.

Turkish media noted that the KTJ-1750 engine was entirely designed and developed with national resources. Activities on the qualification of the KTJ-1750 turbojet rocket engine are planned to be completed by the end of this year.

At the same time, Turkey noted, that Kale Arge is continuing mass production of Turkey’s first KTJ-3200 turbojet engine, which will be used to power the ATMACA and SOM missiles, and is expected to be delivered by Roketsan by the end of the year. Also this year, ATMACA and SOM missiles with an integrated turbojet engine KTJ-3200 are expected to be launched.

KTJ-1750 turbojet engine

KTJ-1750 is capable of producing approximately 1750N of thrust; It has a weight of 20 kilograms, a thrust-to-weight ratio of >11, a diameter of 202 mm, and a length of 464 mm – increased to 609 mm with a longer exhaust nozzle for the Çakır.

Cakir missile family

The Cakir missile is being developed by Roketsan with a modular approach. For this reason, the product is named “Cakir Missile Family” as it will be used by land, water, and air launch platforms. The Cakir cruise missile is a next-generation missile of the Turkish defense industry.

The modular architecture of the Cakir missile means that Ankara will have this missile in four main groups: anti-ship missiles (IIR, RF, hybrid), electronic warfare missiles, tracking missiles (IIR, RF, hybrid), and tracking missiles with a swarm sensor. Thus, this missile is aimed at meeting the needs of the Army Command, the Naval Command, the Air Force Command, and the National Intelligence Organization.

According to the desired characteristics known so far, the Cakir missile will have a warhead weighing 70 kg. and will deal damage at a maximum range of 150 km distance. The top speed will not reach Mach 1 but will be close to these figures: Mach 0.75 – Mach 0.85 (919–1,040 km/h; 571–647 mph). The information about the maximum speed should not be taken as final, because over the years we have witnessed tests of cruise missiles that reach a higher speed than intended.

The missile will have a guidance system composed of infrared homing, radio frequency–guided, or hybrid systems. Cakir’s dimensions are as follows: the mass is 275 kg (606 lb), the length is 3.3 m (130 in) and the diameter is 275 mm (10.8 in).
