Russia sends Krasnoyarsk nuke sub for first tests in the White Sea

MOSCOW ($1=54.36 Russian Rubles) — Krasnoyarsk, the third submarine of the 885M [Yasen-M] class nuclear submarine project, designed to increase the nuclear capability of Russia’s navy, will begin naval tests. In this regard, the submarine was built at the Sevmash shipyard in Severodvinsk. According to information provided by the shipyard of the Russian news agency TASS, the third submarine of the 885M [Yasen-M] Krasnoyarsk project sailed to the White Sea for the first sea tests. The foundation of the submarine was laid in 2014.

“On June 26, the Krasnoyarsk submarine left the Sevmash shipyard for the first sea tests of the submarine in the White Sea. The suitability of the ship’s equipment, seaworthiness, and operational characteristics with the designed parameters will be tested at sea,” TASS writes.

Submarines of class Yasen-M

The Yasen-M class submarines [project 885M] are an upgraded version of the Yasen nuclear attack submarine, capable of detecting enemy ships at much higher speeds than pre-designed and manufactured submarines. In this context, the submarine is equipped with a new energy source and an acoustic protection system to reduce traces of noise and increase invisibility.

The submarine includes an optimized hull shape, improved electronic warfare [EW] and automation systems, two silos for vertical launch systems, an one pump propulsion system that allows the submarine to operate silently, and new torpedo tubes.

The Yassen-M class submarines are equipped with eight vertical launch systems [VLS] for cruise missiles capable of firing surface-to-air missiles Needle-The submarine is also equipped with torpedo launchers.
