ANKARA ($1=16.69 Turkish Liras) — 105 mm towed howitzer BORAN will enter the inventory of the Turkish Armed Forces in August 2022, learned BulgarianMilitary.com, citing Turkish sources. In January 2022, at the test site in Konya Karapanar, the Turkish artillerymen carried out a series of tests, which completed the qualification of the weapon system and gave the green light to start serial production.

- Saudi interested in Turkish 155mm Panter howitzer: 6rpm, 40km range
- Successful tests of Korean DV27K engine into the Turkish Altay MBT
The new Turkish howitzer is an idea and project of the Undersecretariat for the Defense Industry [now SSB] since 2000. Even then, as it turns out now, Turkey needs a light towing killer that can be easily transported and released from the air. BORAN is produced jointly by the companies Machinery Chemistry Industry Corporation [weapon system] and Asselsan [fire control system].
The two companies start production immediately and are expected to deliver the ordered 106 units of the new towed howitzer within 54 months.
About BORAN 105mm towered howitzer
The howitzer has a one-minute time to deploy and prepare to fire. It weighs about 1,550 kg without the holder. It can fire up to 6 artillery shells per minute [6 rpm – rounds per minute] and has a range of 17 km. The howitzer can shoot at 360 degrees [6400 millimeters] using modern or classic artillery ammunition from the inventory of the Turkish army.
BORAN has integrated interoperability with the ADOP-2000 fire support automation system. There are integrated systems for ballistic and digital shooting, systems for detection and orientation of 105 mm barrel, ballistic calculation using a ballistic core, firing speed control, graphic display, laser rangefinder, and thermal camera, digital radio communication, radar system, and more.
The pressure in the barrel of the missile ammunition has not yet been tested. It is envisaged that the weight of the howitzer, which is on the same level as its competitors in the world, will not be reduced further to stand firmer on the ground and to ensure the accuracy of shooting.
