UK buys Soviet/Russian weapons around the world to give to Ukraine
LONDON, ($1=0.82 British Pounds) — The United Kingdom is buying Soviet and Russian weapons for Ukraine to help fight Russian invaders. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal.
- US to Ukraine: 200 M113s, Mi-17s, 155mm Howitzers, ATGMs, 40,000 shells
- SAS unit trains Ukrainians to destroy Russian tanks using NLAW ATWs
- US might deliver MQ-9 Reaper UAVs to Ukraine in less than 30 days
- Ukraine gets Norwegian Mistral VSHORAD – 800 m/s, 6 km range
The Minister of Defense of the United Kingdom Ben Wallace said that his country is looking for Soviet weapons around the world to buy them and then hand them over to the armed forces of Ukraine. “Most [defense ministries] and military attachés around the world are looking,” the defense minister told reporters during a May 11 visit to Washington.
According to Ben Wallace, Russia is also looking for similar weapons, which could show its losses in the war against Ukraine. “Sometimes we come across Russians who, by the way, are also looking for supplies in some countries because they are quickly depleted,” said the British defense minister.
According to Wallace, there are stockpiles of Soviet weapons and military equipment in 23 countries. “If you really want to pass this on to the Ukrainians tomorrow morning and so that they can continue to fight, find what they are learning, find what they need,” he said.
Also recently, UK Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said the UK government is ready to support other countries that want to hand over fighter jets to Ukraine. The point is that Britain is ready to support countries that have Soviet-made fighters and is ready to hand them over to Ukraine. Such countries can be Poland, Slovakia, and Bulgaria.
Recall that in recent weeks, the Ukrainian Air Force has increased the number of airstrikes in support of the country’s armed forces against the background of the statement of the Russian Ministry of Defense that the Ukrainian Air Force is currently out of order.
