Indonesia will build Turkish FNSS Zaha Marine Assault Vehicles
JAKARTA, ($1=14,517.65 Indonesian Rupiahs) — Indonesia will make FNSS Zaha marine assault vehicles [MAV] under a foreign license [Turkey] for the needs of the Indonesian Navy. A Memorandum of Understanding [MoU] between the two countries [Indonesia and Turkey] was already signed a few days ago [April 20th].
- Indonesia buys amphibious armored personnel carriers totalling $286 million
- Indonesia gets Kaplan MT tanks – 105mm Cockerill cannon and LWS
- Indonesian Anoa-2 APC’s armor successfully took 8 kg of TNT detonation
The Indonesian Marines were looking for suitable and up-to-date armored landing combat vehicles. The Turkish company FNSS and their Zaha MAV were closest to Indonesian requirements. The MoU was signed in the presence of Indonesian President Joko Vidodo and Asian Defense Minister Prabovo Subianto.
Indonesia is trying to reduce imports of weapons systems. Years ago, for this reason, the Strategic Program for the Defense Industry of Indonesia was established. The signing of the MoU with Turkey guarantees Indonesia an increase in jobs, the introduction of new technologies, and the infusion of finance into the local economy.
