The ordering of more Camcopters by Thailand is the result of positive experiences from the use of these drones in the Taiwanese Navy. The Thai naval force has already ordered this type of mini-helicopters in 2019, and they have been used continuously since then.

The current contract is to be implemented by the end of 2022. The delivered drones are to work both from land and offshore platforms and will be used primarily in ISR [intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance] reconnaissance missions.

“We are proud to win this very important next contract with RTN of Royal Thai Navy. After successfully delivering the first Camcopter S-100 system on time and on budget, we continue to prove its capabilities… marine and ISR. This additional agreement is proof of RTN’s confidence in Schiebel and its plans to make the S-100 part of its long-term UAS strategy,” Hans Georg Schiebel from Schiebel Group said.

About Camcopter S-100

Schiebel Camcopter S-100 is an Australian-made drone using a rotorcraft design. Used for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance. It was designed in 2005.

Camcopter S-100 takes off with a maximum weight of 200 kg. It can stay in the air for a maximum of 6 hours, but if additional external fuel tanks are installed, its stay increases by another 4 hours. Camcopter S-100 flies at a top speed of 220 km / h, thanks to the Diamond engine, which provides him with 55 horsepower.

The Diamond engine is actually the Austro Engine AE50R, but after the Australian company’s license was acquired by the Chinese Diamond Aircraft Industries, a new company was created under the leadership of Chinese investors – Austro Engine.
