Poland acquired ZUR-23-2SP 23mm automatic artillery systems
WARSAW, ($1=4.20 Polish Zlotys) — The Polish Armed Forces have acquired the PSRA Pilica Very Short Range [VSHORAD] air defense system, which includes a 23mm ZUR-23-2SP automatic artillery system, learned BulgarianMilitary.com.

According to the Polish online portal, the artillery battery is the second in a row acquired by the Polish military. The first, which is the prototype of the system, was put into service in the 37th Missile Squadron for Air Defense, based in Sohachev. The second battery delivered today goes to the 35th Missile Squadron for Air Defense of the Polish Army.
BulgarianMilitary.com recalls that the Polish government ordered a total of six PSRA Pilica VSHORAD batteries nearly six years ago . At the time, a contract between the manufacturer PGZ-PILICA and the Polish government was signed for a total of $ 180 million for the six batteries.
What is PSRA Pilica VSHORAD?
One PSRA Pilica VSHORAD battery consists of six ZUR-23-2SP 23mm automatic artillery systems, MAN-Portable Air Defense Systems GROM / PIORUN MANPADS [MAN-Portable Air Defense Systems] surface-to-air missile, one command vehicle, six towing vehicles, two trucks with ammunition, two trucks for transporting soldiers, Sola radar system, visual surveillance post, cable, and wireless communication.
ZUR-23 is generally a Soviet towed 23 × 152mm anti-aircraft twin-barreled autocannon from the Cold War era. It was developed in the 1960s and has been in service ever since. The Polish defense industry is licensed to produce these weapons, as well as to modify and modify them according to their needs. That is why the latest PSRA Pilica VSHORAD with the weapon is ZUR 23-2SP Jodek-SP – the Polish version of the weapon.
PSRA Pilica VSHORAD is designed to withstand air targets flying at medium or low altitudes. These can be helicopters or drones, as well as some types of missiles. With the 23mm artillery cannon PSRA Pilica VSHORAD has a range between 1,000 and 2,000 meters, while with GROM / PIORUN MANPADS the range of the system is up to 5,500 meters.
Polish experts say a PSRA Pilica VSHORAD battery protects an area of 350 square meters at 360 degrees. ZUR 23-2SP Jodek-SP is actually armed with a double-barreled 23mm automatic gun. The missiles used by the system weigh just over 10 kg and have integrated HE warhead fragmentation.
