Chinese Type 039 sub with 533mm Yu-4s going to combat drills

BEIJING, ($1=6.34 Chinese Yuans) — China’s military portal ChinaMil has announced that the new Chinese diesel-electric submarine Type 039 has left the port where it was to engage in naval combat training. A Chinese source has released photos showing two tugboats pulling the submarine out to sea.

There is currently no information on the number of participants [ships, frigates, submarines] in the ongoing naval exercise of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy, but it is clear from the source that it began in the last 48 hours.

BulgarianMilitary.com reminded us that the Type 039 submarine class is the first class of diesel-electric submarines developed in China and the first to integrate a modern teardrop hull shape.

Type 039 submarine

According to available information, China has 13 Type 039 submarines produced, all of which are already active, but it is not clear how many have been put into operation.

The submarine is 74 meters long and can develop a maximum speed of 22 knots or 41 km / h. The crew consists of 60 sailors, and the submarine tested the document at a depth of 300 m.

Type 039 is armed with six 533mm torpedo tubes for a total of 18 Yu-4 torpedoes. These torpedoes are made in China and are a class of passively self-guided torpedoes, reaching a maximum speed of 40 knots or 74 km / h. The submarine can attack surface targets at a maximum distance of 15 km.

Type 039 has an integrated midrange sonar mounted in the bow of the submarine, with passive and active modes, which is used for both search and attack.
