Ukraine has unveiled loitering munition with an RPG-7 warhead

ABU DHABI, ($1=3.67 Emirati Dirhams) — Hours before the Russian armed forces invaded Ukraine [February 24th], UkrJet, part of the Ukrainian armaments association Ukroboronprom, unveiled its loitering munition portfolio, learned BulgarianMilitary.com, citing Soldat&Technik.

This happened at the UMEX 2022 trade fair in Abu Dhabi. UkrJet had previously unveiled the same ammunition at the Kyiv Arms Fair in 2021. Analysts say UkrJet’s prowess at the Abu Dhabi show is an “obvious attempt” for the company and its portfolio to establish themselves in export markets.

The Kyiv-based company UkrJet develops and manufactures various types of unmanned aerial systems [AUS] and stray munitions and related targeting software called Dedalus. The core of the range shown at UMEX 2022 is the UJ-32 LASTIVKA or UJ-31 ZLYVA ammunition. Both systems are very similar in design and have largely identical operating parameters.

According to the manufacturer, the cruising speed is 120 km / h, and the maximum speed when approaching the target is 180 km / h. The maximum residence time in the air is given as 20 minutes. UkrJet emphasizes that Dedalus software means that the means of action can swarm and must have a high degree of resilience to electronic jamming measures. Both systems are also suitable for all weather conditions and are perfectly suitable for night battles.

According to the manufacturer, Dedalus also allows manual or automatic targeting, including the option to terminate the approach. The approach profile in the height range between 2 m and 2000 m can also be pre-programmed. According to UkrJet, the accuracy of the impact, given with a deviation of about 2.5 m, is currently sufficient only to combat stationary land or sea targets.

The manufacturer currently offers the RPG-7 warhead as an active charge, which can also be replaced by another payload. However, it was not known what restrictions existed on the integration of a new warhead. The biggest difference between the offered weapons is that the UJ-31 ZLYVA can be carried and fired as an external load from the UJ-22 AUS, also manufactured by UkrJet. By combining the systems, the depth of penetration and the residence time in the target area can be significantly increased.

The UMEX 2022 trade fair, which took place from 23 February to 23 February 2023, focused on unmanned land and flight systems. Some of them were demonstrated in flight on the last day of the fair.
